Spring clean your eating habits - Michelle Reynolds
The winter allows us a wonderful time for contemplation, planning and self-reflection. However it is often this time of year we start to feel the effects the colder months have had on our bodies and we begin to think about making some changes. Our body is letting us know it is time to put our plans into action and we start to feel the urge to refresh, renew and recommit. I know for myself, the first glimmer of sunshine I begin to think about cleansing and nourishing my body. One of the easiest ways to help our bodies replenish and cleanse is by the food we eat.
Top 3 Spring Cleanse Foods
Bitter Green Vegetables
You can taste these vegetables going to work as soon as you pop them into your mouth! Bitter vegetables contain sulphur based compounds that help to naturally support the detoxification process of the liver. Including them in your diet is a great way to encourage your liver in doing what it is designed to do. Green vegetables are also a rich source of chlorophyll, which helps to rid the body of environmental toxins and heavy metals. They are an easy addition to any salad or smoothie and include kale, radicchio, rocket, watercress and parsley.
Lemon Water
Gently kick start your digestive system first thing in the morning with half of a squeezed lemon in a glass of warm water. Lemons are one of my favourite cleansing foods as they work at stimulating the liver and cleansing the blood. They also stimulate the release of enzymes which help convert wastes into substances that can easily be excreted by the body.
Beetroots
You can just tell beetroots are going to be good for you just from their amazing colour! They are jam packed full of vitamins including magnesium, beta carotene, vitamin C, folate and manganese. The fibre in beetroots is also great for digestion as it sweeps through and cleans the digestive tract. Don’t forget to eat the green leafy tops of the beetroot too for a power packed burst of nutrition.
Make yourself a bitter greens and shredded beetroot salad with lemon juice dressing. Those toxins won’t know what’s coming!
Michelle is available for Naturopathic consultations on Monday afternoons, book in now for an appointment to set yourself off on the right path to achieve your health goals. Whether it be for a complete detox and eating programme, sort out those digestive complaints or to lose a few extra kilos before summer.

How do you see yourself?
Do you see yourself how your loved ones see you? Or do the compliments and love they give you, not truly reach you, because on some level you feel like you don't really deserve to be loved so much?
WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOVE YOURSELF MORE?
True Healing begins with self love and a deep inner knowing of your true worth and value. If this is something you find difficult, which many of us do, PSYCH-K may be of help to you.
If you are unable to accept compliments or you have a mean little voice inside your head that regularly says unloving and unkind things to you, you most likely have unconscious beliefs that are limiting and unhelpful.
PSYCH - K balances can change these negative or destructive unconscious beliefs about self worth, self image or self esteem into supportive and loving ones, making it much easier for you to love yourself unconditionally.
And the beautiful thing about PSYCH - K is that beliefs can literally be changed in minutes by simple, gentle but powerful balance processes that utilise whole brain integration.
Loving yourself unconditionally will allow yourself to feel worthy and deserving of taking action and implementing the things you need to do to heal your life. This may mean setting better boundaries, speaking up for yourself, putting your needs first or simply allowing yourself to do things that make you feel good.
Learning to LOVE YOU is a beautiful foundation for a wonderful life.

Have Success with Weight Loss
Many factors influence why we gain weight, such as recovering from a health issue, dealing with stress, anxiety or depression, a busy lifestyle or gradually gaining weight overtime. You may have actively tried to lose weight in the past, without achieving sustained long term success. Although weight problems may be caused by a combination of biological, behavioural, emotional and environmental issues it has become clear that stress and emotions play an essential role in our ability to manage our weight. Research findings suggest that emotions play an essential role, and are possibly the primary obstacle to weight loss. Emotional barriers can interfere with maintaining a healthy workout routine or making healthy food choices. Having strategies in place to recognize emotional triggers and being able to respond to our emotions effectively will help to achieve your weight and health goals.
Mindfulness is a technique that has been used for successful weight loss. Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment without judgement. Mindfulness techniques help to develop awareness about your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and your environment. It can also promote relaxation and peace.
Tips for mindful eating
- Bring all of your senses to the dining table, be aware of the taste, smell and texture of foods.
- Experience each bite you take, and take time to chew each mouthful slowly.
- Check in with how hungry you actually are.Are you eating out of boredom or stress? Or are you actually physically hungry?
- Use your fork or spoon in the opposite hand to your preferred hand, this makes you work harder on your hand mouth co-ordination and promotes conscious eating.
Jane can help you identify and address the underlying factors that may be preventing you from achieving your weight loss and support you to develop effective strategies to achieve your goals and keep you motivated.

Thai Stretching
Nuad Bo-Rarn, or Northern Thai massage, is a practice which was originally practiced in the temples of northern Thailand and has its roots in the ancient medicine of Ayurveda. With influences from both yoga techniques and the traditional Eastern theory of energy lines and meridians, it is known in Thailand as passive or "lazy" yoga, because the recipient lies on a mat while their body is taken through a series of assisted moves which aim to release tight muscles and joints and increase balance and range of motion while also creating a state of deep relaxation.
How does a session work?
A typical Nuad Bo-Rarn treatment lasts 90 minutes. The recipient wears loose-fitting comfortable clothing and the session takes place on a floor mat. All stretches and movements are adjusted to the range of motion of the participant, who should feel nothing but a pleasant stretching sensation. More advanced stretches can be added as flexibility increases.
What is it good for?
* Releases points of tension in the body, releases stress and increases energy
* Increases flexibility and range of motion
* Assists alignment and postural integrity
* Improves circulation
* Allows deep relaxation
Karen Evans is a Myotherapist who recently travelled to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand to undertake intensive training in this ancient and effective treatment style. Nuad Bo-Rarn is an excellent complement to western treatment methods and well worth trying, so until of October 31st why not take advantage of our special offer of a 90 minute Thai Stretching session for only $85 (usual price $99)
