When depression flows through every aspect of life, when getting out of bed to go to work becomes a problem every day, the depression is no longer minor, major depression exhibits at least five of the following nine symptoms:
- Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day;
- Diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities of the day, nearly every day;
- Significant weight gain or loss when not dieting and decreased appetite nearly every day;
- Insomnia or hypersomnia (sleeping too much) nearly every day;
- Abnormal restlessness or a drop in physical activity nearly every day;
- Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day;
- Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt nearly every day;
- Diminished ability to think, concentrate, or make decisions nearly every day;
- Recurrent thoughts of death, or suicidal thoughts or attempts.
Depression is a dark filter that clouds the ability to discern reality from fantasy. There are beliefs that form and shape the future such as “no one will ever love me again”, “I’ll never find another job”; or “my life will never be the same”. Regardless of the origin of depression, one thing is certain: negative, self defeating thoughts prolong it.
The journey out of depression does not have to be long or even difficult. Through the benefit of working toward positive goals, being more aware of the triggers such as stress or traumatic events, genetic factors or even learnt negative behaviours to name just a few, changing the mind-set to reprogram and focus on the positives and learn to incorporate new responses will lead to a happier, calmer and healthier person.
Through the use of guidance and hypnotherapy Karen will be able to assist you with ways off overcoming those negatives influences that stop you from making those changes that you want to make and allow you to feel better about yourself, which will benefit so many aspects of your life.
