Who Can Counselling Help?

Jane offers treatment to children, adolescents and adults.

What to Expect from Counselling

During the first consultations Jane will generally start with a discussion about what is happening in your life and the issues that have brought you to counselling. You may also be asked for a brief background of your life. This information is helpful in clarifying counselling goals and developing strategies and approaches to work towards your goals in the future sessions. If the reason for your first attendance is due to such experiences as overwhelming emotional distress or physical pain, the session will focus on addressing your immediate needs. At times you may wish to involve family members or close friends in these sessions.

Some of the therapies used by Jane are:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps you develop skills in managing your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.  CBT may be used to treat problems including anxiety, depression, phobias, low self-esteem, uncontrollable anger, substance abuse, eating disorders and other problems.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy that research shows is an effective treatment of trauma including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is also effective in treating other mental health issues.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) a mindfulness-based behaviour to help manage and maximise your potential of building a meaningful life. Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moments without judgement. Mindfulness techniques help develop awareness about yourself and your environment, relaxation and peace. Mindfulness Solution Focused Hypnosis helps resolve past issues that interfere with personal progress.

Strength and Solution Focused Therapy helps identify your strengths and develop goals to work towards desired outcomes.

Schema Therapy is used to identify underlying beliefs that have an impact on your thoughts and decision making, interpersonal interactions and relationships, emotional responses and action.

You do not require a referral to see a psychologist as a private client. However, if you wish to claim rebates through Medicare you will need to visit your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and a referral to Jane Reynolds at the Geelong Bodi and Mind. You must be referred by your GP, your psychiatrist or paediatrician. Your GP will need to complete a detailed mental health assessment and prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan before referring you to a psychologist. You should book a longer session with your GP to enable time for this. For more information on Medicare rebates please refer to the Australian Psychological Society website.

Wanting to let you know that I have been doing so well (Karen Holt), I thought a lot about what you suggested to me and it allowed me to stop eating unnecessarily.

Mary S

Thank you Karen (Holt) for your support with my anxiety concerns, I'm not sure how I would have coped without it.

For the past few months I've been struggling with a separation. I came in for a treatment on the Thursday, by Saturday I was singing. I am calm! Much love and thanks Amber (Birkin)!

Kerry B

Thanks so much Karen (Holt) for your sincerity, you have put me back on the right path instead of trying to escape with the use of alcohol.

Jane M

(Since seeing Karen Holt) I just feel so calm in myself – it is as though the anxiety doesn’t exist anymore – I am coping so much better.

Michelle C

(Karen Holt), I now fly with ease and am no longer worried when getting on a plane, my life is so much easier.

Shelley Mc

Thanks (Karen Holt) for listening and helping with my problems, I had the most relaxing holiday ever - no trouble sleeping even in the confined space and with company. I have also lost over 10 kg's and I don't panic so much if things go wrong.

John S

Karen (Holt) you have helped me overcome my fear of snakes so easily, I can now walk out in the grass without always being fearful.
